A regularly scheduled meeting of the United Bikers of Maine, Piscataquis County, was held on 11-16-09, 7pm, at the Bear's Den in Dover-Foxcroft.  Assistant CD, Vicki Sylvia, presided over the meeting.  Attendance was a bit down, but still good.

The Secretary & Treasurer's reports were read & approved.

Assistant County Director's Report (Vicki Sylvia):

1.  We received a $60 gift card, and it will be used to buy 1st aid supplies for our county first aid kit that will be taken with us on our rides in the future.
2.  On 1/9/2010, Hancock County will be holding a 1st responders course in Ellsworth.  The cost of the day's course is $40, but Friend & Friend will pay $10 of that.  Maximum number of participants is limited to 20.
3.  The Sacarens will be having a swap meet at the Augusta Civic Center in January.
4.  Arlene Johnson (Somerset County) is the new state Web Mistress.

OLD BUSINESS:

1.  We voted to pass on purchasing a bunch of breast cancer t-shirts from a hospital in North Carolina.  The shirts were to be worn at a ride we want to do next year for breast cancer awareness.  Instead, we will contact the American Breast Cancer Society and see what organizations we can support here in Maine to raise awareness on a more local level.
2.  We are sending a get-well card to Joe Guyotte, who had triple by-pass surgery.
3.  We need three events for the UBM state calendar.  They are:
    (a) Open House at Victory motor Sports on 5/29/10
    (b) Breast Cancer Awareness Ride on 6/27/10
    (c)  Piscataquis County Field Day on 7/17/10
4.  Christmas party at Katie's Bar & Grill in Guilford:  12/12/09, 2pm.  We will order off of the menu.  We will have a Yankee Gift Swap.  Please bring a gift that's good for either male or female.  You have to bring a gift to receive one at the swap.  We're hoping for a HUGE county attendance at this party.  Johnny B will be back for it!!!

NEW BUSINESS:

1.  Joshua Herndon has stepped up to not only be our MMPAC representative, but also as our county's Legislative Affairs Representative.  Although there is no-such official position for that at the county level, he has decided to do it anyways, and has the state's blessing on it.  He asked that a Legislative Affairs page be added to our county web-page.  Bill Goodman (county web master) will take care of that.  It should be up and running by the time you read these minutes.
2.  Josh was voted in as an Area Representative.
3.  We collected $20 for Maureen of Katie's Bar & Grill.  Her daughter is going through brain surgery.  We added $30 from the treasury, for a total gift of $50.

MMPAC NEWS:

1.  The state is thinking of eventually replacing the metal guardrails along the roadways with steel cables.  This imposes a great risk to motorcyclists.  The MMPAC is working on this to provide suggestions to the state.
2.  The MMPAC wants to set up some sort of a check-point of roadways heading into Maine to monitor incoming motorcycle traffic.  This information will be used to feed the state information on how many motorcyclists visit our state, and provide tourism dollars to our economic base.

SEE YOU ALL AT THE CHRISTMAS PARTY ON 12/12/09, 2PM AT KATIE'S BAR & GRILL IN GUILFORD!!!!!
